Samsung Galaxy Z Flip The Best Foldable-Smartphone?

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip was launched alongside the Galaxy S20 series. As the s20 Ultra was the headliner of the launch the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip got a bit under shadowed. Anyways this phone is the second generation of Samsung's Foldable smartphones. This phone gives a retro flip phone vibe and it is fascinating. Here id all you have to know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Review - TeckReady Style

1. The Display

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has a 6.7" foldable Dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p*2636 pixels. The phone flips horizontally this year. It has a hole-punch selfie camera in the top center. The display is of 425 ( PPI ) density. The display has an HDR 10+ technology. The front display is of a plastic frame

When the display is closed we have a 1.1" Super AMOLED display with the resolution of 112 x 300 pixels. However, this display is only for viewing notifications or the time and the resolution is not that good either on top of all that it does not support touch response, so pretty much it is kind of useless to me. The crease in the middle of the phone is much more visible this year than the original Galaxy Fold but still, I appreciate the innovation of it and I am pretty sure in the near future we can have a creaseless foldable smartphone.

We do not have any 120 HZ or 90 Hz display here but I would love to see a high refresh rate foldable display.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip does not have an In-Display Fingerprint reader but aside mounted one although I would love to see a foldable phone with an In-Display fingerprint reader.

2.The Hinge

The Hinge

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has four aspects of the hinge.

Firstly, the hinge is what holds the core of a foldable smartphone and this year Samsung has made it hard and stiff. Stiff meaning that customers can now have a sense of trust towards the phone and believe that it is durable enough to be one's daily driver.

Secondly, Samsung named it the 'Flex Mode' where the phone can sit on a flat surface like a laptop screen and show the true uniqueness of a foldable smartphone.

Third, when the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is close there is a gap that scares me because first of all the plastic screen is fragile. So, if debris gets in then the screen can be damaged.

Lastly, the hinge now has extra blockage so that debris cannot get in this was one of the key reasons that the first generation of the Galaxy Fold was a failure.

3. The Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has a primary lens of 12 MP with an aperture of f/1.8. Over here Samsung did not go full throttle and let their software do much of the work. The camera has Optical Image Stabilization. This lens can take videos at the optimum resolution of 4K @ up to 60 fps and 1080p up to 240 fps. The Samsung Galaxy Z flip has an insanely awesome Super Slow=Mo mode of 720p@960 fps.

The ultrawide camera is also of 12 MP with an aperture of f/2.2 PRetty much following the trend some smartphones are losing the telephoto camera. This camera is very much well capable of taking good landscape views or buildings scattered together in a wide frame.

Selfie Camera

The selfie camera is 10 MP with an aperture of f/2.4 and I have to see I have seen better selfie cameras. The video situation is a bit tangible with 4K videos @ 30 fps but I really hoped this camera could go up to 4K @ 60 fps.

4. The battery

The Cover Display

The phone has a 3300 mAh battery which is non-removable, surprisingly at this price range, I would at least expect a 4000 mAh battery. And because it is a foldable display you would expect the battery to drain faster. But as far as I think this phone can give you roughly 5-6 hours of screen on time which is not bad but you would expect more.

The phone has 15 W fast charging not the fastest but still usable. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has wireless charging but not reverse wireless charging.

5. The Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has an 8 GB RAM with internal storage up to 256 GB UFS 3.0 storage with no micro SD card slot.  The phone runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855+, not the 865, this was surprising to me that in 2020 why would you use a processor from the last year. The phone runs Android 10 with Samsung's new and improved skin the One UI 2. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip does not have a headphone jack.

6. Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip retails at a price of almost $1380 dollars, this is way cheaper than the original fold but I feel like the smartphone is still rather expensive. It would have been more meaningful if it had much more latest specifications.

Conclusion

At the price of $1380, I would rather buy the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Not only because the phone has killer specs but the line up of foldable smartphones is still not that impressive that someone would be eager to buy it. I would obviously buy future foldable smartphones when they feel more complete. As of right now, I think that we should just for better future successors of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
