5 Reasons NOT to buy the Google Pixel 4 XL

Google Pixel 4 XL Review

Google Pixel 4 XL

The Pixel 4 XL launched on 24th October 2019, honestly, I was so excited for this phone to come out but unfortunately, it could not live up to the expectations and hype. Famous Youtuber MKBHD even awarded this phone the Bust of the Year. It is a pity seeing a phone of this caliber failing our hopes. Let's get into the review.

1. Camera

The only thing good about this phone is the Pixel camera. The primary camera is a 12 MP sensor and powered with Google's excellent image processing software you can get the best pictures of any smartphones with this lens. The primary camera has an aperture of  f/1.7.The second camera is a 16 MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. What? IT is 2019 and you still do not have an ultrawide camera. Yes, the Pixel 4 XL does not have an ultrawide camera and me with the Tech community was very disappointed. Although with these two cameras' only you can still take stunning shots and good low light images using Google's night sight. The Pixel 4 XL can take 4k videos at 30 fps another lacking, it should have been 60 fps however you can take 1080p @ 120 fps.

Selfie Camera

The selfie camera is an 8 MP camera with an aperture of f/2.0 with auto HDR. This camera is capable of taking 1080p videos at 30 fps. Beside the camera is a Time of Flight Depth sensor for biometrics and better A.I.

2. The Display

The 90 Hz Display

I feel sore to type this but even in 2019, the Pixel 4 XL has huge front bezels on the top and bottom. I totally support the front-facing stereo speakers but as we are headed towards the future we all want a completely bezel-less display. Please Google next year in the Pixel 5 get us an infinity display. The  Pixel 4 XL has 6.3" always on P-OLED 90 Hz display,  this is what I like. The resolution of the  Pixel 4 XL's display is 1440*3040 pixels with a PPI of 537. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which is excellent my only complaint is that it has a screen to body ratio of 81.3% approximately.

3. The Specifications

The  Pixel 4 XL uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855, not the 855+ which is surprising. The phone has a RAM of 6 GB which is good but 8 GB is quite the standard now. The battery is only 3700 mAh and for an Android phone, this is quite less considering the RAM and the display refresh rate also the high-end processor should have been 4500 mAh. The phone comes in with Android 10 and you can be expecting to get the latest updates first in hand. The phone has 18 W fast charging and QI wireless charging.

4. Storage

The base model of the Pixel 4 XL is 64 GB and it also has  128 GB version too. But no SD card slot. This would have been okay if the storage was 256 or 512 GB. On top of that Google removed unlimited photo storage options so now, you cannot store as many photos on your latest Pixel device. Why Google, just why?

5. Motion Sensing

The Pixel 4 & Pixel 4 Xl

This is where Google thinks they played their Trump card. Instead of getting an In-Display fingerprint scanner like the others have been doing, they installed a Soli radar sensor. Which will unlock your phone as soon as you pick it up from the table? They also have air gestures but they are quite inefficient. As I have seen many people who bought this phone complains that it does not work properly and that they use the display more. Also, to be noted some countries do not even allow these kinds of sensors that they use, like India so a big market of their buyers is gone.

Conclusion

The 64 GB version of the  Pixel 4 XL costs $ 899 and the 128 GB version costs $999, these prices do not match with specifications and the whole package of the phone. Although, you get the stock Android experience and stunning photos I would suggest you buy the iPhone 11 Pro with the $999.
